call your mama back!

it is a good thing magnum pi doesn't know i have a blog. i'm sure he'll find out at some point, but until then, he makes for some great entertainment....

magnum pi has been in the hospital since last friday for a blood clot in this lungs. he got them to release him yesterday. how do i know this? his mother called the office this morning frantically trying to reach him....here's how it went down:

L: hello?
Magnum PI's Mom (MPM): hello!! this is MPM. have you talked to MPM today? has anyone there?????
L: no i'm sorry Mrs. MPM.
MPM (ultra frantic and worried): well he was released from the hospital yesterday, even though he shouldn't have been, and when he left he was very sick. he threw up in his car! but he was fine before bed and well, he was supposed to see the doctor this morning, he is taking injections in the morning for the next couple of days you see, and i can't reach him. i've tried his house multiple times and his cell phone. he's not picking up. i'm wondering if i should come back (she lives on the other side of the state) to check on him.
L: i will help you look for him, Mrs. MPM. Don't worry. If I can't find in him the next 20, I'll call you back, okay?
MPM: okay, yes thank you!

so i hang up the phone and i feel so bad for MPM's mom. she is going crazy with worry. he's also an only child, so i'm sure that doesn't help. so i'm calling his cellphone, i'm googling his name to find his home phone. no answer on the cellphone, can't find his home number on google, so when my boss walks in, i'm like, "here's the scoop...blah blah blah... i promised mrs. mpm i would help her find him and she's really worried. let's go to his house", but our intern somehow googles better than i do, because she find his home number....after several (and by several i mean 20) rings, he picks up and he's completely out of it.

MP: hello?
me: HELLO!
MP: hi, i'm at home.
me: DUH. i called YOU. anyway, call your mother RIGHT NOW!
MP: whaaaaaa? huh? she called there?!
me: yes, she's been trying to reach you for an hour!
MP: okay, i will call. sorry. thanks for letting me know.
me: np. dude. you have to call her right after you hang up!
MP: ok okay.
me: RIGHT NOW!
MP: OK!
me: okay bye.

so thirty minutes go by and my phone rings.

me: good morning, this is X
MPM: hi, X! its MPM
me: hi, MPM! i hope MP called you. i told him too.
MPM: yes he did. thank you so much! he just doesn't realize how serious his condition is and he doesn't have anyone to take care of him and he was all bothered that i called the office, but i told him until he has a wife to take care of him, i'm all he's got and to enjoy it. the lord only gave him one person to look after him until then, thats me... (she goes on for several minutes, but you get the general gist)
me: well i'm glad i could help
MPM: yes yes! thank you! if you need to reach me for anything. i'm going to give you my numbers. (she gives me three).

what is the lesson here folks? ALWAYS ALWAYS PICK UP THE PHONE WHEN MOM CALLS. SHE LOVES YOU THE MOST.

i'm going to go call my mom now.
